Do Elliptical Machines Handle The Job?

Posted on 31 December 2008 in Uncategorized by admin

Elliptical Machines

One of the newest and most popular exercise machines on the market today is the elliptical machine. Elliptical machines offer a low impact, full-body healthy workout that can easily be varied from low to high intensity and is limited only by your preferences. Designed to boost cardiovascular intensity, an elliptical works both your lower and upper body through a wide range of features. Considering the steep cost for a good quality machine, let’s see if the elliptical lives up to all the promotion?

An elliptical cross trainer is similar to a treadmill in its work on the leg muscles and the heart. An elliptical produces an intermediate range of leg motion between that of stationary bikes and treadmills. By varying the stride length on the elliptical trainer, you can target a larger variety of muscle groups. As your stride is lengthened, more calories are burned without any higher rate of noticeable exertion by the user. What that means for you is quick calorie burn and less time on the machine.

Despite providing a good weight-bearing workout, elliptical machines are very low impact. This means less stress on your joints during health fitness exercises because your feet never leave the pedals and therefore do not experience high impacts. You imitate the natural elliptical motion of walking and running with minimal impact on your body. The movement is fluid, and when you add your arms, gives you added stability as well as a great upper body workout.

Elliptical machines provide an excellent cardiovascular workout, a key part of overall health and fitness. Whether you want to lose weight, firm up your body, or a combination of both, incorporating cardiovascular exercise into your workout routine is crucial to your long-term success. Simply adjusting incline, speed and other factors, you can maximize cardio impact.

If you have ever cycled through starting and stopping an exercise and fitness routine many times, you should understand that the key to sticking with a routine is to find something you enjoy and that gives you visible results in a short amount of time. This is where elliptical machines fit in. An elliptical allows you to get in a healthy workout in a minimal amount of time so you can get back to your busy life without sacrificing fitness.

If you are looking for exercise equipment that provides a safe, low impact aerobic workout, an elliptical is a great choice. Elliptical machines vary from maker to maker, so if you are considering purchasing one, make sure to do your research, test the machine yourself to get comfortable with it and always consider comparable models. Look for machines that have upper body handles, adjustable inclines and directions, foot platforms that accommodate your feet and a sturdy frame.

Walking is the number one exercise performed by people daily. If you are a walker then you know how important a role the weather plays in your exercise schedule. Stop being a slave to the weather. Treadmills are the ideal way to stay in shape. You do not have to worry about walking in inclement weather and you can exercise in the comfort of your own home. This will help influence you into exercising more and getting into the best shape possible. Stop using the weather or time as an excuse. Get on that treadmill and start walking to a healthier new you. Click here for more information: Exercise Fitness also Extreme Fitness and at Muscle  And  Fitness

Causes Of Sudden Hair Loss

Posted on 31 December 2008 in Uncategorized by admin

Here are the two main reasons that a person suffers from sudden hair loss…it’s their genes and it can also be due to stress. Women can suffer from hair loss as well, not just the chaps! if you’ve ever experienced hair coming out in clumps in your hairbrush or waking up in the morning to find a collection of hairs on your pillow, you’ll know how hair loss can be really affecting.

It’s also true that a sudden trauma can cause you to lose your hair. If you were involved in a serious accident or are recovering from surgery this could be a cause for your sudden loss of hair.

I found a way to combat my own hair loss in the herbal supplement provillus but more of that later. What are the other possible causes of hair loss?

Another cause of your sudden hair loss may be alopecia. There is currently no known cure for alopecia and it’s usually recognisable when the hair falls out in patches resulting in random bald spots on your head. You may have to visit a doctor to work out the exact reasons for your sudden hair loss but if it’s just the usual hereditary hair loss…the bane of all men (and some women) well that can be taken care of.

I'm not talking about messy hair transplants either. You can now get an all natural substance which serves to restrict the flow of DHT in the body which we now know to be the cause of hair loss. I used it…nothing happened….I almost gave up and then…my ickle bits of hair started to grow back. Now my confidence has returned and, oh just go and read my provillus review - I think you’ll like what you see…

What ishould I know about an eating disorder?

Posted on 31 December 2008 in Uncategorized by admin

What is an eating disorder?

Anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder form a complex and chronic illness.  Nothing ever happens in a fraction of a second. It takes a rather a long time to develop an eating disorder like Bulimia or anorexia. For its treatment to be a success it takes even longer time.

An abnormal and extremely unhealthy eating pattern is harmful to a person’s normal physical well being. Eating too much, and not eating enough can both be involved in this disorder. Throwing up or bingeing after a meal is also termed an eating disorder.

Eating disorders are usually found in females rather than males, (though evidence shows males are now tending to succumb more nowadays). It is usually more prevalent in the age group of fifteen to twenty five. Being young and slim is what most dreams of female’s are and this in turn results in the development of life threatening disorders.

Adolescents need a balanced diet. The nutritional requirements are very high, in adolescence, due to their accelerated physical, biochemical and emotional development. It is a period when that final growth spurt occurs. There is also an increased demand for energy, protein, minerals and vitamins. So when the requirements are very high any deficiency in nutritional intake will cause problems which will follow them for rest of their lives

The causes of eating disorder are numerous, but the main cause is thought to be psychological factors.  These are related to abnormal obsessions with the amount of food eaten by the sufferer and their subsequent gain in weight. Voluntary appetite control can be controlled by them.

The major eating disorders are anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, hyperphagia, orthorexia, pica, food phobia, and rumination.

The amount and the pattern of eating depends on many factors such as peer pressure, food availability, ethics in families, their own appetite, imitating role models, concerns about gaining weight, and psychological factors. Eating disorders though often start as a mild complication and lead to serious heart and kidney failure and ultimately can lead to death.

Eating disorders may also lead to the following problems:

electrolyte imbalance, amanorrhoea, thinning of hair, functioning of the heart decreases, dental caries, hypothermia, bone mass decreases, liver function is altered, ulcers in oesophagus, reduced immunity in the body and low blood pressure.

Identifying an eating disorder is as important as its treatment. They are easily treatable if the patient is willing to undergo the treatment. Psychiatric treatment followed by behavioral modification, nutritional counseling and medical treatment should always form the start of the treatment.

Some of the famous personalities in recent times and in the past who are thought to suffer from these eating disorders are

Marie Osmond, Princess Diana, Princess Victoria, Mary-Kate Olsen, Victoria Beckham, Emma Balfour, Fiona Apple, Eliza Donovan, Jessica Alba, Kate Dillon, Roseanne Barr, Tracy Shaw,  Karen Carpenter, and Marie Osmond.

Always remember to eat healthy, be cheerfull and follow a regular exercise pattern. This will help you avoid these problems.

What do do when your love one has epilepsy

How to live when you have or someone you love has epilepsy

Living with someone who has epilepsy or if you have epilepsy yourself is somewhat difficult, but it is extremely do-able.

Though there are bumps along the way, nothing is really impossible as long as one is clearly focused and intent on living a normal and natural way, with or without epilepsy.

The following are some of the issues people with epilepsy usually encounter, as well as some helpful advice to make life as productive as possible.

An epilepsy diagnosis has implications in one’s life that extend to work, relationships and school.  Epilepsy need not be a condition that is debilitating.Succeeding in it is best for one’s self and principally for those that are around you.

Know what triggers your epilepsy

Believe it or not, one’s lifestyle has a tremendous influence on how and when seizures occur.

It has been shown that one in about twenty people who has epilepsy is actually sensitive to lights that are flashing.

Seizures could also be induced by TV programs, strobe lights and video games. There are also individuals whose seizures are brought about by heavily drinking of alcohol, recreational drugs and from prolonged sleep derivation.

Stress also plays a part in increasing the frequency of seizures.

Be safe anywhere and everywhere

There are certain situations that are high risk for someone with epilepsy.A number of these activities are scuba diving, mountain climbing, hang-gliding, and so should very well be avoided.

However, it is important that life should not be restricted when one has epilepsy.

Swimming is possible, however it is vital that someone is knowledgeable of epilepsy and knows the exact thing to do when a seizure does occur.

The attendant of the pool must also be informed.

When inside the home, showers are actually a lot safer compared to the bath.Anyway, baths should be shallow and that the admission to the room containing a bathtub or a shower must always be available to use when someone with seizures is washing or cleansing.

Guards should also be used in open fires, cookers and radiators. What’s more, cooking (food) in a microwave oven is a lot more advisable compared to using cookers.

Also, if you observe that your seizures have caused you to fall a lot more times, using a helmet for protection is extremely advisable.

Using alarms that are automatically triggered by such falls is especially important for those people with epilepsy who live alone.

What Is The Molluscum Contagiosum Virus?

Posted on 31 December 2008 in Uncategorized by admin

HPV infection

A highly contagious skin infection that stems from a certain pox virus is known as Molluscum Contagiosum Virus or MCV. This skin infection causes painful lesions on the individual that are highly contagious to other individuals. The virus is so contagious that it can even be spread from touching objects that have been contaminated by an individual who has the virus. There are many different types of treatments that a dermatologist or a pediatrician, if the virus is affecting a child, can prescribe. Unfortunately, this virus can often times be wrongly diagnosed as a different type of problem. Some of these issues include dry skin or eczema. If the virus is affecting an adult, then it can sometimes be confused with the Human Papilloma Virus HPV.

The Molluscum Virus usually offers two courses for the infected patient, which is usually a child. Letting it run its course, which can take up to two years, or cutting, burning or freezing the lesions off, which can be severely painful for the patient. If the second option is taken and the lesions become infected, then a new infection, like a staph infection, could take place and MCV may not go away. At the same time, letting the virus run its course could be life threatening, as any number of infections could enter the body through open lesions, especially in children.

MCV has three stages. First, you’ll usually see tiny bumps in a patch that resemble goose bumps. From there, the virus will move into the second stage where the lesions look like flattened moles and then, finally, the third stage where the lesions will look like the pimples every teenager sees during puberty. MCV affects mostly children, but can hit anyone of any age as well. In children, the virus is seen mostly on the face, neck, armpits, hands and arms. For adults it is seen as an STD, or sexually transmitted disease, on the lower abdomen, thigh area, buttocks and genitals.

The Molluscum virus affected one doctor so much when his grand daughters caught it, that a third option for treatment, called the silver cure, was created and comes in a variety of lotions, shampoos and more. Other treatments like this are seen throughout the internet world, but patients with this virus are advised to consult a medical professional before using anything not prescribed by a physician or dermatologist. To keep MCV from spreading, it is important to not allow others to use your personal items, including, but certainly not limited to, towels, hairbrushes, eating utensils and more. Because this virus is so extremely contagious, as are HPV infections, anyone can catch it, even from touching a doorknob that has been contaminated.

What Are Autistic Spectrum Disorders Behaviours?

Posted on 31 December 2008 in Uncategorized by admin

autistic disorder

It was not until the mid 20th century that the world became aware that autistic spectrum disorders existed. In 1943, Dr. Leo Kanner began to study a group that included 11 children and labeled the disorder that affected them as being what we know today as autism. At the same time, Dr. Hans Asperger, a German scientist, was describing a milder disorder within the same spectrum known as Asperger syndrome. Today, we know it to be one of five developmental disorders that are often referred to as the autism spectrum disorders. Each illness in the autism spectrum will vary in degrees, with regard to an individual’s impairment. The impairments include problems with communication skills, the inability to socially interact with others and behavior patterns that are both restrictive and repetitive.

An autistic spectrum disorder can be first noticed in a child by the age of 3 and in many cases much earlier. It is normally the parent who is the first to notice the behaviors or at times, the lack of certain behaviors of their children. Children who are stricken by disorders of the autism spectrum act differently than other children and sometimes do so from birth. They are most often unresponsive to parents and other individuals and will focus on objects that are not of any relevance, for an extended period of time. The child may also show signs of changes as they develop. If a child was once able to focus and interact with parents and others by babbling and cooing and suddenly becomes resistant to socialization, then this could be a cause for concern.

Disorders may range from the milder form in the autism spectrum, normally referred to as Asperger syndrome, to a more severe form known as an autistic disorder. There is also high functioning autism, which shows symptoms very close to Asperger syndrome. If a child seems to have symptoms of autism, either the mild or the more sever form, yet does not fall under a certain criteria for one of these disorders, then they are normally diagnosed with a pervasive developmental disorder.

If disorders in the autistic spectrum are caught early on, then there are plans that can be put into action that can help the patient gain better skills in both communication and in social situations. The problem is that these disorders are not always noticed right away, mostly because children all develop at different rates. Not every child will speak at the same time another might, and so on. It is important than any delays in development be passed on to the child’s physician so that testing for autism spectrum disorders can be initiated.

Water: The Fastest Way To Lose Fat

Posted on 31 December 2008 in Uncategorized by admin

Forget all of those lose weight fast gimmicks out there. Your body is already set up for quick weight loss; you just have to know how to kick it into gear. Here’s how:

Water

This may sound unbelievable, but water can be one of your best allies to rapid weight loss. The more water your drink, the more pounds you lose. In fact, many health and weight loss gurus tout water as the best way to lose 10 pounds fast.

How does it work? A well hydrated body burns 3% more calories than a dehydrated body because hydration increases your metabolism.

Water also calms hunger pangs, too. Studies show that when you feel hungry, most of the time it’s your brain interpreting thirst as hunger. So, a well hydrated person will eat less than one that’s dehydrated. A person who drinks enough water also eats less at meals because their stomach is full of water and there isn’t much room for food.

Since water is such a great quick weight loss tool, you don’t want to counteract it by taking diuretics. Sure taking diuretics may make it seem like you lost 10 pounds fast, but all that weight is just lost water. To counteract the water loss your body will go into a natural defense starvation mechanism called hording mode. Believing that it’s starving, a body on diuretics stores extra water. You end up weighing even more than you did before you took the diuretic.

Exercise Fat Burning Plan

The best way to burn fat through workout is to start a two-fold exercise and weightlifting regimen. Basically, you choose a high impact cardio workout, like running, and follow it up the next day with weightlifting. This is the fastest way to lose fat.

Why is weightlifting so important? Because having lean muscle is the best way to up your metabolism and burn fat.

Some people think that gaining muscle makes you gain weight. This is true, to a point. Most people do have some initial weight gain, but in a few days the weight is gone again because the extra muscle has gotten rid of so much extra fat. And the truth is, muscle weights a lot less than fat, and looks a lot better, too.

The best high impact cardio workout/muscle building workout for a fat burning plan is circuit training. This incorporates two minute bursts of different cardio exercises and muscle exercises that work different muscle groups. The benefit of this type of program is that you get a whole body workout, which will create more rapid weight loss.

Many gyms offer circuit training programs, but you can also create your own to at home. For example, you could run in place for two minutes, then do a set of squats, jump rope for two minutes, then a set of crunches, then go back to running in place.

Meals

The best meal plan for quick weight loss is a high fiber diet. It may not sound pleasant, but it really is the best way to kick your metabolism up a notch just by eating. Foods high in fiber stay in your system longer, keeping your blood sugar at an even level. Also, high fiber foods block seven calories for every gram of fiber you eat.

The average adult eats 10 to 15 grams of fiber per day, but, the ideal amount to eat when trying to lose weight quickly is 20 to 35 grams per day. The best way to kick start your metabolism for the day is to start your it with a high fiber, low fat cereal such as oatmeal. Throughout the day, keep your metabolism working fast with small, high fiber meals every few hours.

If you combine all three of these strategies, you will lose 10 pounds fast, and continue rapid weight loss.

Have You Ever Given Thought To What Your Fitness Needs Are?

Powerball Gyro

To see one of the most powerful and dynamic sports instruments on the face of this planet check out NSD Powerball.

As we go about our busy lives, our fitness needs do not often come to mind. In fact, the only thought that is given to our fitness needs probably relates to the 15 pounds we think we need to lose. But even when we are fairly fit, we have needs that help us to sustain that fitness. Have you ever given thought to what those needs are?

Meditation, an is an exercise recommended for everyone, but especially those of us with hectic, stressful lifestyles, is defined as an engagement in contemplation, especially of a spiritual or devotional nature. Meditation has been shown to relieve stress, and promote overall good health, by simply reflecting upon our day, and finding happiness within ourselves.

Your nutritional needs levels are dependent upon your eating habits and whether you use daily supplements of vitamins and minerals in order for you to sustain optimum physical health. Much discussion is centered on this topic right now, because our nation faces obesity problems of epidemic proportions. Our eating habits make up a large portion of our nutritional daily intake. What we consume goes a long way to keeping our bodies fit.

Do we understand what our nutritional requirements are, how to fulfill those requirements, and how to look for real nutritional value in our foods? I’m not a 100% sure that nutrition has been successfully addressed in its own right. We hear nutrition in relation to our vitamin intake, our fortified cereals and milk, and in the context that we need “nutritional value” from our food choices.

But what really is nutrition when applied to our daily bodily functions? Nutrition refers to the nurturing of our body, in our ability to keep it healthy and functioning as it is supposed to do. Our ability to provide the body with all the necessary food, vitamins, and minerals so that we continue to thrive in our daily life processes. Quite often, our vitamin and mineral needs outweigh our caloric needs. In those instances, we turn to manufactured vitamins and minerals to fill the gap.

Alternative medicine options such as chiropractic care, acupuncture, herbal cures, and holistic medicine are all ways we can help to keep ourselves fit. All of these alternative healing approaches offer ways to incorporate their use into staying fit and healthy. With that said, chiropractic and acupuncture are becoming more widely accepted as complements to the traditional forms of exercise and medicine options. Herbal cleansing and healing are used by many to provide for ways for body keep itself in a state of fitness and optimal health.

What role does exercise play in this process? Well, exercise helps our body to keep it in optimal shape. To keep muscles functioning correctly and gain muscle mass. The more muscle mass we have, the more calories we burn. The more calories we burn, the better our metabolism is at using up the calories we take in through food consumption. Can you see how our body is really a well functioning machine? It’s a continual circle of events, one feeding off the other.

And when all the events are coming together properly, we are healthy, happy individuals. Today, we must determine how much nourishment we need, how much physical exercise we need, and how best to accomplish those ends. Calorie needs, nutritional needs, physical needs, and education about those needs now is information we should all understand, at least as it applies to our ability to maintain our fitness levels. If you will visit your local doctor, library, or fitness center, there is massive amounts of information available to help educate and to help you make good health choices, no matter what the ultimate goal, fitness maintenance, or fitness improvement.

How Diet Has An Effect On Your Health

Posted on 30 December 2008 in Uncategorized by admin

diet and health

What does it mean to live a healthy lifestyle? Generally it means you eat a healthful diet, you engage in a moderate exercise program, you don’t smoke, you limit alcohol consumption, and you maintain a normal weight. Sounds simple, doesn’t it? Not really? For most people, trying to balance an active lifestyle with a healthful lifestyle may seem impossible due to time constraints, job and family commitments or just simply lack of motivation. Maintaining your health does not mean living miserably.

Eating right does not have to be a chore. Some rudimentary alterations to your shopping list for the next time that you go to a grocery store will help you get onto the right path to eating more healthy. Substitutions that are smaller such as consuming more vegetables as well as fruits and consuming lower amounts of foods that are refined and processed over an extended period of time lowers your calorie intake as well as increases your nutrient content. It is not in your best interest to force yourself into doing away with your entire way of how you eat and begin with something that would be restrictive. Feeling deprived leads to failure. Go slow and enjoy each new item you add to the menu.

The word exercise doesn't have to be a dirty word. If you lead a sedentary lifestyle, start slow and increase your activity level as you reach small goals you set for yourself. It may be just using the stairs at work instead of using the elevator. Over time, you might decide to walk for part of your lunch break. Eventually you may want to join a fitness center to increase your progress. Go at a pace you are comfortable with and enjoy.

If you smoke, consider a smoking cessation program. There are medications in pill, patch and gum form that can assist you in stopping. Talking to a counselor or adopting a quit-smoking buddy has been shown to help smokers quit smoking at higher rate than trying to go it alone. Side effects of smoking include rapid heartbeat, decreased circulation, and shortness of breath and more serious problems like cancer, emphysema and heart disease can eventually develop.

Drinking alcohol in moderation has actually been shown to benefit the cardiovascular system. Nonetheless, taking in more than one 8 ounce glass or even two has the ability to result in damage to yur liver. The liver acts as a giant filter system of the body. When the filter is clogged, the body does not function properly. Jaundice, gallstones, blood clotting difficulties, organ failure and death can result when the liver is compromised.

Maintain a healthy weight for your body type by watching your diet and incorporating health fitness into your lifestyle. You can calculate your body mass index (BMI) by dividing your body weight by the square of your height, or a much simpler method is to use one of the many BMI calculators available online.

So you’ve let yourself go. You don’t feel fit. You lack energy. Serious health issues may run in your family. What to do? It is never too late to adopt a healthy lifestyle. Integrate more healthful food choices into your diet. Add health fitness to your routine. Quit smoking and have a glass of red wine with dinner. Eating better and increasing your activity level helps you maintain a normal weight. Each little change gets you closer to the lifestyle goals you set for yourself.

Click here for more information: Male Fitness Model also Discount  Fitness  Equipment and at Fitness  Models

Quick, Easy and Everyday Ways to Incorporate More Exercise Into Your Routine

Posted on 30 December 2008 in Uncategorized by admin

It’s no secret that most of us need to get more exercise on a daily basis. But if you think that this means scheduling time at the gym and spending all of your free hours on a treadmill, think again! Here are some simple ways to incorporate more movement into your daily activities. And if you are {following a good diet program} you’ll be able to burn even more calories, just by taking a fresh approach to some of the active things you do each day.

The first technique is to walk whenever you can. Park farther away from your office or your destination than you normally would. You can get a lot of exercise by trekking across the parking lot. If the weather permits, park on the other side of the parking lot from where you are headed. You’ll not only have an easier time finding a parking space, but you get a great little workout that just takes a few minutes. When you make this a habit, you’ll hardly even notice the extra exercise. This step becomes a lot easier when you invest in some good walking shoes to wear everyday. You might be surprised at the chic styles that are great for your feet. (Here are some coupons and special offers for discount walking shoes.)

You might want to consider a negative heel shoe. Experts say you can actually burn more calories each day just by walking in these shoes. Many different brands of negative heel shoes are now available on the market. The oldest carrier of this type of shoe is the Earth shoe company.

Taking the stairs is also a simple way to increase your activity on your day-to-day travels. Avoid escalators and elevators, and take the stairs whenever possible. After the first few days of doing this, you might notice that your legs and knees are feeling worn out. Don’t worry too much about this. They’ll snap into shape pretty quickly.

If you spend your evenings catching up on your favorite TV shows, why not use that downtime to get more exercise? Position a stationery bike a rowing machine or a treadmill in the TV room, or simply strike a deal with yourself that you’ll do some form of exercise during the commercials. Pick a different activity for each commercial break. Do sit-ups, push-ups and jumping jacks during the commercials, and you’ll be able to enjoy your favorite programs and still get a bit of activity in.

Better yet, substitute your evening television with a bit of exercise. Take the whole family for a stroll after dinner. Use this as a chance to catch up with the day’s events and to get moving. It will help your children wind down after a busy day and give you a chance to connect with your spouse. Plus, you’ll be setting a great example for your kids to follow. If you show them that staying active is important, they’ll carry on the habit as they grow older.

Housework and gardening can actually help increase your heart rate. Do active forms of housework like mopping the floor or vacuuming on a regular basis. Group them together in one brisk cleaning session so you can really get your heart rate going. Try to get outside and work for a little while each day. Even something as simple as pulling weeds from your garden counts as activity.

Take time for two to three short walks throughout your day. Take a walk around during your lunch break and then another during your afternoon break. If you incorporate these short walks throughout your day, you’ll be increasing your activity level without sacrificing a whole lot of time.

With these simple changes, you’ll be able to raise your heart rate without spending a lot of time working out. Within just a matter of time it will become second nature and you won’t even realize you’re exercising. And, chances are, you will start to feel more fit over the long term, which might make more vigorous forms of exercise look appealing.
